Preaching Through The OT Effectively With A Bible Bible Timeline Poster

In our Bible class some years ago, a friend who had been a Christian and laboured in the Church for many years, said,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they were not talking about the pre-mosaic law) I wonder how many Christians will really notice the inaccuracy in this assertion. Moses existed some 500 years after Abraham and so it is impossible. I have since compiled a Bible timeline banner and explained graphically the dating of people and occasions.

Some years ago, I was speaking on the resurrection, life, burial and death of Jesus Christ, and a retired pastor and powerful preacher of the Bible, who had been a minister for 40 years, came to me and reproved me smartly over some interesting points I made and he referred to 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I was preaching anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he replied"No". I continued to explain that in the case of that particular verse, it was not speaking to exploring Scripture but to the false teachings and school of thought of Gnosticism, but he wouldn't have it. Let me ask, how can a 40 year preacher & laborer in the Gospel, not understand and know about a thing that possibly half the books of the New Testament relate to?
How can he understand and preach the Bible fully without knowing about a thing that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to comprehend these things and be able to understand their Bible effectively, if they are not informed?
Let's us as teachers and preachers stitch together the fragments of God's Word and His plan into a logical whole that our people are able to draw on for the rest of their lives, helping them to comprehend God, His Eternal Plan, the function of the Church and ways to better interpret the Bible to order our lives by.
It's not difficult to do, and it's not boring if we are ready to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just perhaps you can employ a Bible Timeline too.
